AI in the Workplace: Corporate AI Tools Training Module

Project Details

I designed and produced an instructional video introducing prompt engineering to a general audience with no prior technical background. Using Mayer's Multimedia Principles and Cognitive Load Theory as a foundation, I built the video around the RTCF framework, a structured approach to writing effective AI prompts, and demonstrated its application through real-world personal and professional examples.

Institution: University of North Carolina Greensboro
Role: Instructional Designer & Multimedia Producer
Project Type: Academic Project - Instructional Video Design

Delivery: Video / Asynchronous
Tools: Adobe Express, Claude AI and ChatGPT
Timeline: April 2026

The Challenge

Most people interact with AI tools daily but struggle to get useful results because they don't know how to communicate their intent clearly. The challenge was to make prompt engineering feel accessible and immediately actionable for a general audience, without technical jargon, and without assuming any prior knowledge of AI. The design challenge was equally significant: translating a conceptual skill into a visually engaging, well-paced video that respects the limits of working memory and avoids overwhelming the viewer.

Instructional Design Approach

The video was structured around six clearly segmented scenes, each covering one concept at a time in line with Cognitive Load Theory. Mayer's Multimedia Principles guided every production decision, narration carries the explanation while visuals support it, on-screen text is reserved for labels only, and all demonstrations are synchronised in real time. The RTCF framework (Role, Task, Context, Format) serves as the central mental model, giving learners a practical, reusable structure they can apply independently from the moment the video ends.

Conclusion
This project demonstrates my ability to translate abstract concepts into clear, learner-centred instructional content. It reflects my approach to multimedia design — grounded in theory, built around the learner's experience, and designed to produce genuine behaviour change rather than passive consumption. It also evidences my proficiency with Camtasia as a production tool and my ability to apply instructional design frameworks from planning through to final output.
